Becoming a Seattle Electrician
If you aren't an electrician, but would like to become one, you can get started in a variety of ways.
One way is to enroll in an electrical apprenticeship program. In an electrical apprenticeship program,
you work and study for several years while being paid a limited amount. Click here for information about
electrical apprenticeship programs in Seattle.
You can also start by going to a trade school for electricians. Click here to find a
trade school for electricians in WA.
Some electricians get their start by finding a job as an electrical helper that requires no
experience or training. But experience and study of electrical theory and the
National Electrical Code
are necessary for the next step - becoming a journeyman, an electrician who can work without
immediate supervision.
If you want to run your own business as a Seattle electrician, you'll need to become a licensed electrical
contractor. This requires passing a licensing exam administered by the
Washington State L&I.
Many special schools offer assistance in studying for the licensing exam. Once you are an electrical contractor,
you can be your own boss and earn a higher income.
